The Harp School, Inc.

Carol McClure, Artistic Director

One major goal of The Harp School is to introduce students to the possibilities of a wider world, to encourage them to explore 'What's possible for me?', 'Where can this take me?', 'How do I get there from here?', 'What contribution do I have to make to my world in the future?'

This is one reason we have every student participate in the examinations of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM). The exam experience, performing before a distinguished UK examiner, gives the student the opportunity to interact with a bigger outside world, as one of over 600,000 students who participate annually. This invariably 'raises the sights', introduces the idea of accomplishment on an international standard.

We also, through Summer Harp Academy and other sponsored events, introduce students to world-renowned performers and teachers, such as Skaila Kanga and Helen Arnold (England), Elinor Bennett (Wales) Sivan Magen (Israel), Jana Bouskova (Czech Republic), Nancy Allen (New York Philharmonic/Juilliard School of Music). We also invite great choral conductors such as Tim Sharp (Exeuctive Director of ACDA), Sarah MacDonald (Selwyn College, Cambridge), and Greg Wheatley (Wheaton College), as well as other great instrumentalists from major orchestras, to share their years of experience. Each bring a unique career perspective, and valuable lessons in music and life to our students.
